BACK TO THE 80s
When we were asked to create an 80s themed event in July for HMS Collingwood we couldn’t wait to get stuck in! Back to the Future, Michael Jackson, Ghostbusters and so many more iconic 80s films were flying around my head and I knew there was only one way to set the scene as guests arrived at the venue…..
ABOUT THE EVENT
The guests began to arrive at 7pm and parked at the front entrance was The Delorean equipped with all the sound effects and lighting from 80s classic ‘Back to the Future’. Draped at either sides of the entrance were film backdrops of Back to the Future and Top Gun to set the scene. Guests made their way to the drinks reception where striped stalls with quirky 80s designs of pac man and space invaders held huge ice filled baskets of drinks. For added 80s fun we supplied a Zoltar fortune teller from the film Big and a Giant Tetris and Street Fighter to keep guests entertained whilst enjoying a few pre-drinks.
After drinks the guests were seated for dinner. Table centre pieces of old vinyl’s and cassettes filled with fun 80s props went down a treat and got everyone in the 80s mood. As guests enjoyed the dinner our multi skilled performers dressed in 80s fashion amazed guests with magic, balloon modelling and crystal ball juggling.
When dinner was over the real party began and centre stage were the fantastic 80s Vibes band playing some absolute classics from Wham, Bowie, Depeche Mode and Duran Duran. As some guests enjoyed the fantastic live band others were making their way past Giant Ghostbuster figures to our 80s themed Cocktail Bar where cased at the end of the bar was a model from 80s horror film Alien. With glowing green and blue lights the bar looked like it was in the centre of a mad scientist’s lab! Outside the cocktail bar was a fantastic fire show which kept guests thoroughly entertained whilst sipping on some fabulous cosmos made by our flair bar tenders.
In the room next door female fronted band ‘Rockin 80s’ had the room dancing with 80s Pop Hits such as Material Girl, Love Shack and I’m So Excited whilst further on guests were enjoying the Silent Disco streaming 3 different channels of 80s Rock & Pop. Outside we had some fantastic funfair rides including Dodgems, Big wheel and Freakout which seem to be packed all night long.
The evening was a great success however we still had the grand finale! As over 600 guests quickly began to fill up the main room creating a circle where the last act was going to perform, you could feel the excitement building. The music began and within seconds of the crowd hearing the song ‘Wanna Be Startin Somethin’ a swarm of people rushed to the centre of the room as if the real Michael Jackson had just appeared. The energy was incredible and the performance from Navi and his crew was perfection! We could not have asked for a better finale!
